Hritika – Proposal Coordinator

Hritika is a Proposal Coordinator for RHEA in Canada, who lives in Ottawa but is based at the Gatineau office. She joined RHEA in July 2022.

What made you want to work in this sector?

I studied journalism in college and after graduating, I somehow entered the world of proposals and bid management. Even though the proposal process within bid management may be similar across different companies, I get to learn a lot from each proposal I work on – be it cybersecurity, physical security, transit or information management/information technology.

The work is meticulous and I like that.

What is your favourite aspect of your job?

Bid management essentially is the process that oversees a proposal, from receiving the email invitation all the way through to submission. We organize meetings, create documents, and review and finalize the proposals.

Every proposal is a collaborative effort between sales, recruitment and business development; our role in the proposal team is to bring it all together. As a result, I get to work with and learn from a lot of amazing people. On a regular basis, I work with security consultants and IT, business, recruitment and sales professionals, which is pretty cool.

Would you recommend a career in your sector?

I would! It is always nice to introduce people to the company and explain what the company does.

Proposals are effectively a representation of RHEA, presenting what we do and how we deliver it. They are the initial portrayal of the company, which is why it is important that each proposal is as good as possible. The proposal team tailors the propositions that are submitted, ensuring that we meet the quality and standards of the business.

It is nice to know that we make a great impact on both small and large scales.

Do you have any tips for people trying to get jobs in your area of expertise?

Bid management and proposals do not necessarily have strict roles and responsibilities, which allows us to learn as we go.

A generic tip would be to instill yourself in process as much as you can, that way you learn a lot of unexpected things. It is also important to be communicative and have a strong sense of time management.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am from New Delhi, India, and I moved to Canada when I was 17. I studied journalism and I hope to read law someday.

I love to cook, watch anime and read – I am usually immersed in multiple books at once! Lately, I have been trying to learn French so that I can (hopefully) read books in French one day.

Tell us something unusual about yourself

I mentioned that I want to read law in future. In fact, I had gotten into my dream law school to study BA LLB, but applied to journalism school solely on a whim, having decided to study journalism because of a character called Esther in a book called The Zahir by Paulo Coelho (and she is not even the protagonist in the story!). I had, essentially, postponed my dream to follow my curiosity.
