RHEA Canada continues to grow: we are looking for a Junior System Administrator to join our team, supporting continued growth through 2025.
The System Administrator will be responsible for the continued operation of IT infrastructure and systems. In this position, it will be necessary to work closely with employees across Canada and to provide IT support services. The System Administrator will be expected to work independently, and travel occasionally to provide on-site support.
The System Administrator reports directly to the Vice President for RHEA Canada, working in a hybrid environment out of Ottawa or Montreal.
Tasks and Activities
The scope of work will include:
- Provide hardware and software installation, repair, support, and maintenance for both hardware and software assets across the company, including:
- Workstations
- Laptops
- Servers (e.g. Sharepoint/File Servers, Backup Servers, applications license servers, Office 365 Email and Firewall (Fortigate))
- Scanners, printers, faxes, digital senders and plotters
- PDAs and Smartphones
- Shared network resources
- Specific applications and non-standard software
- Project database (e.g. Microsoft SQL)
- Execute project plans and installations for upgrades and new improvements to RHEA Canada’s IT Infrastructure.
- Record and manage incidents and service requests.
- Provide assistance in the technical and functional use of the services and applications
- Perform corrective maintenance in response to user reported problems.
- Oversee the installation, setup, configuration, upgrade, administration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and daily operations of server and hardware infrastructure.
- Manage the hardware lifecycle of the infrastructure in scope.
- Maintain an inventory management system to record and track IT, hardware, software, and operating system licences belonging to the company.
- For any SW tool:
- Managing the SW lifecycle and evolution
- Implementing immediately urgent and security related upgrades,
- Reporting on any non-urgent upgrade/migration need in the Monthly Report,
- Executing agreed upgrades.
- Provide advice and support on the most common standard software being used by the company.
- Provide installation support for desktop tools.
- Provide recommendations for hardware and software procurements, as well as performing software and hardware testing for potential purchase.
- Analyse possible technical solutions to projects or users’ requests and issues, modifying the existing solutions or integrating already existing software or applications.
- Ensure that RHEA Canada has the required equipment for new starts, that accounts are created on time, and that they have their equipment ready and available for their first day.
- Monitor tickets and support requests to ensure they are fulfilled on a timely manner.
- Coordinate patching of systems, maintenance windows, communications for service interruptions, backup testing, etc.
Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a System Administrator in a medium-size organization (100+ employees)
- Demonstrated knowledge of the following:
- Microsoft 365
- Automation of software installation
- Scripting
- Security Monitoring
- Different operating systems including Windows, Unix, Linux, and virtual machines (VMWare)
- Experience with ISP and network infrastructure maintenance
- Experience with remote PC management.
- Experience in network-related activities across both wired and wireless networks.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field
- Any additional experience
- Experience working as part of an international team
- Bilingualism in English and French
- Relevant certifications (ITIL, CompTIA A+ or Network+, etc.)
